This is a key position within the Transplant Diagnostics R&D Bioinformatics team, based in West Hills, CA. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to partner with lab scientists, data analysts, software engineers and domain experts to build pioneering technologies and develop innovative molecular typing and antibody detection products.
The successful candidate will develop, improve, and maintain tools, pipelines, and software for the analysis of complex HLA typing data from PCR, microarray, NGS, and antibody detection platforms. This role will work in collaboration with the research staff and other departments, and requires knowledge of data analysis methods, software development, bioinformatics, statistics, molecular biology, as well as the ability to quickly grasp new subject areas.
**What will you do?**
+ Build software tools, including development and implementation of new computational algorithms using machine learning and statistical models to provide solutions for process automation and data analytics for the R&D and manufacturing teams
+ Develop pipelines for NGS analysis and other bioinformatics workflows
+ Build and maintain Bioinformatics web portal for communication and distribution of Bioinformatics tools throughout the Transplant Diagnostics division
+ Work with IT team to administer Bioinformatics infrastructure to ensure a robust and scalable architecture that effectively supports Bioinformatics software
+ Search relevant sequence information from external sources for primer and probe design, as well as mining and analysis of genomic libraries and genomes
+ Analyze and interpret complex experimental results and work hand in hand with laboratory scientists for the research and development of new molecular and antibody products
+ Actively participate in software development lifecycle, including writing software specifications, code and design reviews, implementing test plans

**Education / Experience**

This Principal Engineer will be responsible for the development of laser based processes through release to manufacturing. The Engineer will lead process development and process improvement projects to support cutting edge technology in laser joining and laser cutting of metal and glass materials. Process development work scope may span across multiple process areas with a primary focus in laser equipment. They will coordinate risk burn down and problem-solving experiments by utilizing DRM/DFSS (Design and Reliability for Manufacturing / Design For Six Sigma) and data driven methods. Perform equipment qualifications (IQ), process validations (Process characterization, OQ and PQ), and gage R&R studies (TMV)
Integrate equipment and material capabilities to meet process module target specifications and technology target specifications.
Review product development requirements for compatibility with processing methods to determine costs and schedules.
Interact with product design and development personnel to ensure that processes and designs are compatible.
Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. Generate and maintain documentation per quality system regulations.
**Minimum Qualifications:**

+ A minimum of 4 years relevant engineering experience or a Master’s degree and a minimum of 2 years relevant engineering experience.
**Preferred (Nice to Have) Qualifications:**
+ Medical device/Pharmaceutical or other regulated industry experience.
+ Hands on experience with process and/or equipment development on manufacturing process.
+ Experience with DRM / DFSS, Lean Sigma, or Green/Black Belt Lean Sigma certification.
+ Knowledge of DOE, statistical analysis methods and data analysis tools (Minitab, JMP, etc.).
+ Experience and understanding of SPC principles including process capability analysis and control charts.
+ Experience or aptitude to program, run and troubleshoot automated assembly equipment, or automated metrology tools.

+ Provides technical and sustaining engineering support in a manufacturing area.

**Must Haves:**

+ Working towards a bachelor’s or master’sdegree in mechanical engineering or related engineering major with an anticipated graduation date of Winter 2026, Spring 2027, Winter 2027 or Spring 2028
+ The ability to participate full time (40 hours/week) as part of our intern cohort from June 1 - August 14 (semester system programs) or June 15 – August 21 (quarter system programs)
+ Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis and do not require sponsorship in the future for an employment visa.
